About the Victoria Security Licence

Security licensing in Victoria is administered by Victoria Police, through the Licensing and Regulation Division, with licences administered by the Chief Commissioner, under the Private Security Act 2004.

Licence terms and renewal are set by Victoria Police at the time of application. All applicants must pass a National Police Check as part of the licensing process, and the underlying qualification (Certificate II or III in Security Operations) is nationally accredited even though the licence itself is issued by the state.

Important: A National Police Check is mandatory for all security licence applicants. Certain convictions, particularly violence, fraud or drug-related offences, can result in refusal of a licence. Each state licensing authority makes its own determination.
