Security licensing in Queensland is administered by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), not Queensland Police Service, a common misconception, under the Security Providers Act 1993.

Licence terms and renewal are managed through the Office of Fair Trading. All applicants must pass a National Police Check as part of the licensing process, and the underlying qualification (Certificate II or III in Security Operations) is nationally accredited even though the licence itself is issued by the state.

Important: A National Police Check is mandatory for all security licence applicants. Certain convictions, particularly violence, fraud or drug-related offences, can result in refusal of a licence. Each state licensing authority makes its own determination.
